Kitsuné was founded in 2002 in Paris by Gildas Loaëc, Masaya Kuroki and the London-based design company Åbäke, consisting of Patrick Lacey, Benjamin Reichen, Kajsa Ståhl and Maki Suzuki. Loaëc and Kuroki, who both like fashion and music, had the idea of founding a company involved in both areas during a trip to Japan. The brand’s moniker, “kitsune”—the Japanese word for “fox” and venerated mythical shape-shifter with a multitude of manifestations—evokes the brand’s manifold identity. The signature Kitsuné fox logo emblazons a varied assortment of offerings, ranging from refined streetwear classics to tech accessories and towels. With each new collection, the label continues to showcase a light-hearted blend of Japanese minimalism and Parisian prep.
